Can an Overactive Thyroid Cause Fatigue?

You may have come across the notion that an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) can leave you in a constant state of tiredness. But what about hyperthyroidism? Can an overly active thyroid also be a culprit for fatigue? Sometimes the thyroid gland can get out of order and produce too much or too little hormone. Since thyroid is responsible for setting pace for energy levels, overactive thyroid increases your metabolism leading to fatigue/exhaustion. It can also make it hard for you to sleep. If your provider discovers that you have an overactive thyroid, they will decide which treatment is good for you, most commonly medication ceasing thyroid from overproducing the hormone. If the issue persists, your healthcare provider should help in discovering other causes.
